STAKEHOLDERS
Standing committee advisory meetings
SHAPE continues to enjoy active participation from members in all sectors of the entertainment industry. Our two standing committees, Motion Picture & Video and Performing Arts, meet regularly and raise issues of concern to their members. Both committees provide direction to the SHAPE Board of Directors .
COMMUNICATIONS/PROMOTION
Promotion/Outreach
SHAPE participates in industry conferences and events throughout the year. We welcome your suggestions for opportunities to communicate with members of the entertainment industry in BC.
Newsletters
The SHAPE Newsletter is produced 10 issues a year. All past issues may be found on our website as well as mailed out. If you have any suggestions for stories or topics that you would like to see covered in the newsletter, please email Ed Brisson.
Website
The SHAPE website is updated on a regular basis. Included is the BC version of the US motion picture studio safety bulletins.
RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT/PUBLICATIONS
Safer Products
From time to time, the safe use of products comes into question. SHAPE continues to have these products tested and communicate guidelines for safe use and/or possible alternatives.
Safety Passport
The Safety Passport system went online in the summer of 2003. All students who successfully completed SHAPE training courses are registered in the system.
Think Set Safety
The SHAPE Think Set Safety resource package is designed for high school students in grades 11 and 12 as an introduction to safety and health issues in the performing arts industries. SHAPE also offers an orientation for teachers.
MSI - Injury Prevention Program
SHAPE is working with a WCB ergonomist to develop an injury prevention program.
Paint Department Safe Work Guidelines
SHAPE is currently working with a graduate student from the UBC School of Occupation and Environmental Hygiene on the development and communication of safe work practices.
Dance Injury Prevention
SHAPE offers an injury prevention workshop for dancers. Contact us to schedule a workshop for your school.
OHS Posters
SHAPE offers posters on the prevention of back injury, hand cleaning, Eye Protection, Table Saw Safety, HAVS (Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome).

INDUSTRY & WORKSITE SERVICES
Hearing Tests
SHAPE provides a hearing testing program for workers considered at risk of hearing loss. SHAPE maintains a database of all workers tested as well as providing education and awareness of hearing conservation.
Respirator Fit Testing
SHAPE offers respirator fit testing and maintenance of a database of all workers tested.
OUTREACH
Industry Consulting
Our primary OHS consultant, Marty Clausen, provides advice and solutions to issues raised. He provides a respirator fit testing service, on-site training for Safety Committees, Accident Investigation, Fall Protection and Smoke & Fog monitoring. Marty is available to assist with all OHS concerns
SHAPE has also contracted the services of Bill Campbell , recently retired Captain of Special Events, City of Vancouver Fire Department. In addition to the currently offered Fire & Life Safety inspections, Bill can offer training in the use of fire extinguishers as well as use of pyrotechnics.
